Mediaroom in the Garage

In today's article, we would like to present to you another interesting way of arranging space – the garage – which originally had a different purpose. Although it may be surprising, the garage, which typically serves as a parking space for vehicles, can be utilized in a completely different manner. This surprise is understandable, especially for those who have not previously dealt with rearranging a garage. However, such transformations are not uncommon. Families with smaller homes particularly understand this need.

Many homes allow for parking the car directly in front of the garage entrance, sometimes leading to the question: "Do I really need this garage?" especially when living space is limited. In such cases, the garage often becomes an additional storage space for various items that do not fit in the rest of the house. This is the most common way of using the garage for a purpose other than parking a car. However, it is not always the only option.

An interesting idea for transforming the garage is turning it into a multimedia room. It will be an ideal place to relax for anyone who wants to have their own corner for gaming or simply for socializing with friends, similar to the presented project. The space we are presenting was a garage with dimensions of 18.5m2.

With such a size, it is worth considering using an ultra-short-throw projector, which, with the help of a properly constructed cabinet, will not take up much space. The projector casts a 120 or 90-inch image when the drawer is not extended. This is related to the distance needed to cast an image of a certain size. Here, I caution against often unrealistic visualizations of projectors casting a 120-inch image from a standard TV cabinet placed directly against the wall.

Transforming the garage into a multimedia room requires some work, but it is not as difficult a task as it may seem. There are many ways to conceal the entrance gate, for example, using curtains, as we did in our project, or using a partition wall, especially if we have trouble maintaining warmth. If necessary, warmth can be provided using an electric heater.

To truly make the room a multimedia space, appropriate audio equipment must be installed. In our project, we decided to use the Sonos Arc speaker with a subwoofer to create high-quality spatial sound, which is an ideal solution for projects with limited space and existing electrical installations that we do not want to disturb. To avoid acoustic problems, we also installed acoustic panels, which not only serve their function but also aesthetically complement the interior design.
